Royal Worlington & Newmarket Golf Club

Visitors

I have made up my mind on one point: if ever I am asked again in a golfing questionnaire ‘Which is the best inland course?’ I am going to write down ‘Worlington’ without the least hesitation

Visitors Welcome

Visitors are welcome, although numbers are strictly limited. This, together with the fact that only two-balls are allowed, keeps the speed of play up, with most rounds being completed in three hours.

Current Rules

We don’t have a tee booking system in place but rather operate on a roll-up basis. All visits to the club must be arranged in advance with the Secretary or one of the members of staff (in his absence).

All visitors (without a member) must have an official handicap to be able to play at the Club. This should be shown on the day unless previously agreed with the Secretary.

Catering

Light snacks, home-made soup, freshly made sandwiches, home-made cakes, tea and coffee and a full bar service are available daily in the Clubhouse.

On Match and Society days, a full four-course lunch can, if required, be provided. Breakfast can also be arranged and tea and home-made cakes are always available.

All food is freshly prepared and cooked on the premises. The Club is renowned for the quality of its roast lunches and home-made traditional puddings such as treacle tarts and fruit crumble. A good selection of quality wine is always available at reasonable prices.

With a week’s notice, groups of four or more may book breakfast and/or lunch in advance of their visit.

The Club has made famous its Pink Jug drink which is a concoction of lemon, ice, champagne and equal tots of benedictine, brandy and Pimms No. 1. This has traditionally been enjoyed by members and visitors alike at the start or end of a round at Royal Worlington.

The Club Secretary or our Head Steward, Barry O’Connor, would be happy to discuss any catering requirements you may have in advance of your visit.

Dress Code

Royal Worlington and Newmarket Golf Club is a private members club where we value the traditional aspects of the game on the course and in the clubhouse.

As such, and for clarity for members and visitors alike, we operate the following dress code.

On the course and in the clubhouse, smart casual dress is acceptable, subject to the following:

• No denim jeans, collarless shirts or trainers.
• Gentlemen are asked to wear shirts that are always tucked in.
• Clean golf shoes (without metal studs) may be worn in the clubhouse but not in the dining room.
• Rainwear should not be worn in the clubhouse except in the changing rooms.
• Tailored shorts (not cargo or beach shorts) may be worn on the course and in the clubhouse but not in the dining room.
• The Club prefers gentlemen to wear long socks with shorts. However, smart short socks are permitted with a preference for them being white.
• Smart dress is required in the dining room for both men and ladies: Gentlemen are required to wear jacket & tie.
• When playing with a guest, members are responsible for ensuring the dress code is adhered to.

Pace of Play

Speed of play is important at Worlington. Regardless of format, singles or foursomes, 18 holes typically takes 3 hours.

All players are expected to ensure they keep up a good pace of play. Calling other, faster groups through is encouraged.

Mobile Telephones

Mobile phones and similar devices may be used whilst inside your car in the car park. In the Clubhouse they may only be used for diary purposes, and on the course for medical emergencies only.

Juniors (under 18's)

Juniors who are not members may be asked for an up-to-date handicap certificate and must play with an adult.

Clubhouse Opening Hours

Summer 8:00am – 7:00pm
Winter 8:00am – 5:00pm
